A super secret elopement at Gilpin Lake House was the perfect touch for Abbie & Nick before their big French Chateau wedding
What's better than one wedding? TWO Weddings of course! Abbie and Nick were always going to have a big, beautiful, fun-filled Chateau wedding in France. However this meant that they had to legally say 'I do' in the UK before they headed to Bordeaux with their family and friends. Last summer we saw record breaking temperatures which encouraged Abbie and Nick to do something a little different than a normal registry office affair. They kindly asked me to accompany them for a super secret elopement to Gilpin Lake House, and when I say secret, I mean, SECRET. Not a single person knew they were heading to the beautiful Lake District for a relaxing weekend together...oh and a secret wedding!

I met the lovely Abbie and Nick down at the Lake where they had the pleasure of saying 'I do', under dappled light and rustling trees. The lake glistened in the summer sun, and the birds chirped in the forest across the lake. Just Abbie, Nick, me, their registrar and a staff member from the hotel as their witness were in attendance. It was intimate, emotional and quietly beautiful.
Once the register was signed Abbie, Nick and myself went for a slow wander around the estate, bottle of champagne in hand, exploring the forest, taking in the views, and we even took a little row boat out for a turn around the lake. Despite being secret and small, it was no less special. There were tears of joy, lots of giggles and a feeling of love - The icing on the cake was the truly breathtaking location. A hidden lake in the middle of the wilderness is the perfect setting for such a personal moment.
